Contemporary Mythological Metal Sculpture by Enrique Del Angel

Poseidon: Forged in the Abyss came naturally from Enrique Del Angel's fascination with Greek mythology.

After creating several mermaids and HippoKampus: Sea Racer, it was simply time for the ruler of the sea himself to emerge.

Del Angel created Poseidon to appear suspended in water. Rather than standing firmly upon the earth, his body seems to float above the mechanical components beneath him, as though he is rising from the depths of his own realm.

One hand rests upon his trident.

The other reaches outward, commanding the sea, its creatures, and ultimately, his own destiny.

That gesture became the deeper meaning of the sculpture.

Poseidon does not simply accept the world around him. He rises above it. He holds life firmly in one hand while using the other to determine where he will go.

For Del Angel, Poseidon: Forged in the Abyss speaks to the person who has done the same. The person who refused to be defined solely by what the world handed them. The person who chose to rise, take command, and shape a life of their own making.

The collector who connects with this sculpture will not simply own a representation of Poseidon.

They will recognize something of themselves in him.

The Sculpture

Poseidon is constructed from reclaimed automotive and industrial components, including bolts, sheet-metal drops, a pushrod, nails, and transmission components.

His suspended posture creates the illusion of floating beneath the surface, while his trident anchors the composition visually. His outstretched hand gives the figure its commanding presence, as Poseidon takes authority over the sea, its creatures, and his own destiny.

Mechanical components once created for machines become the anatomy of a mythological god, bringing together the industrial world and the imagined depths of the sea.
