Ray of Sunshine

There will be rainy days.
There will be clouds.

But one thing is certain...

That ray of sunshine will always, ALWAYS break through that rain cloud.

Isn't family the same?

Ray of Sunshine is an original metal sculpture by Enrique Del Angel featuring three cownose rays rising together above a natural wood base.

Each ray began as a flat piece of steel. I formed them individually by hand, using heat, hammering, welding and texture to transform the flat silhouettes into three-dimensional forms with their own movement and character.

Their golden finish responds to the light, changing as the sculpture is viewed from different angles. The three rays are different sizes and move independently, yet remain together.

I deliberately chose wood for the base rather than continuing the sculpture in steel. Against the strength of the metal, the organic character of the wood brings another part of the story into the sculpture:

Growth. Resilience. Family.

They aren't identical.
They don't move exactly the same way.

But they move forward together.
