The Story Behind This Angel: Grace Under Fire
Some angels have pristine wings.
This Angel does not.
Its wings are burned, blistered, and scarred, the evidence of having passed through fire more than once. Parts of its body are missing. An arm and a leg are being rebuilt through twisting strands of steel, forms reminiscent of both the human DNA helix and the Caduceus, symbols of life, healing, and renewal.
This Angel has been broken before.
And every time, it rebuilds.
But there is another part of its story.
A heavy chain runs from the angel to the mechanical world below. It represents kindness, something we usually think of as a strength, but which can sometimes become a tremendous weight.
There are people who lead with kindness even when kindness is not returned. They forgive. They give another chance. They absorb the hurt. They try to understand. And sometimes, in protecting the feelings of others, they sacrifice pieces of themselves.
The fires leave scars.
The battles take pieces.
And still, they choose kindness.
That is the contradiction at the heart of This Angel.
It is trying to rise while carrying the very quality that has sometimes kept it tethered to the things that hurt it. Yet the sculpture is not about weakness. There is tremendous strength in remaining kind after experiencing reasons not to be.
The angel's damaged body tells us what that strength can cost.
Its rebuilding limbs tell us what happens next.
You rebuild.
Not because the fire never touched you, but because it did.
Not because nothing was lost, but because something was.
And not because you emerged unchanged.
You didn't.
The scars remain. The missing pieces become part of you. And somehow, with battered wings and a body still rebuilding, you try once again to rise.
Although every now and then...
even an angel wonders whether there might be an easier way. 👀

Always leading with kindness,
even to those that usually lack.
Losing part of itself and always rebuilding anew.
This Angel often wonders if it were simpler to have the courage to say “Oh...F@#& You!”
