Wired to Rock

Wired to Rock will never play a note.

But perhaps it can play something else.

A memory.

A song you haven't heard in years. Your first concert. The guitar you once owned. The band you grew up listening to. A road trip, a person, or a moment in your life forever connected to music.

Built from reclaimed automotive and industrial components, Wired to Rock transforms timing chain, spark plugs, gears, valves, and other mechanical parts into the familiar form of a guitar. An automotive pushrod is bent and formed to resemble a tremolo arm, while slender rods suggest strings that will never vibrate.

But just as important as the steel is what isn't there.

The negative space within the sculpture leaves room for something I could never weld into it:

Your memories.

Perhaps that's why we connect so deeply with music. A song can take us somewhere else in an instant, to a person, a place, or a time we thought we'd forgotten.

The sculpture doesn't need to make that music.

You bring it with you.

I can build the guitar.

You bring the music.
